The Wellness mountain
Bormio, an Alpine town rich in history and tradition, boasts a wealth of culture, tourism opportunities and sports within a magnificent setting, and which naturally enough starts with the spa’s healing thermal waters.
Bormio represents an Alpine town rich in history and tradition with a fascinating historic centre hosting stately homes, churches, classic towers and elegant fountains.
Along any of the centre’s countless narrow streets evocative glimpses of the past emerge, like the magnificent Piazza del Kuerc, since ancient times the very heart of commerce and the town’s administrative headquarters.
Bormio is contained within a vast, lush basin of a valley, surrounded by the Stelvio National Park and dominated by the imposing bulk of Monte Reit from where flow the vital thermal waters of Cinglaccia which has served our spa complex since its foundation in 1920.
Today it’s a hugely important tourist resort with many diverse strings to its bow, offering a cornucopia of attractions for visitors whatever the season is.
In winter time its ski-area guarantees long days on the slopes which range from above 3,000m down to 1,225m and lead right to the heart of the town itself, forming a natural grandstand for the world-famous Stelvio piste – a veritable jewel in our Alpine crown. In addition, the proximity of the Santa Caterina Valfurva and Livigno ski-areas encourages visitors to embark on a ‘ski safari’, skiing every day in a completely different landscape, all representing some of the most exhilarating and challenging in the Alps. And for lovers of cross-country skiing there are ample opportunities with all three locations boasting scenic circuits, which with regard to their setting and condition are second to none.
Once the winter season comes to a close, Nature comes into its own in the Bormio area. From Spring through to Autumn, excursions within the Stelvio National Park throw up some exciting possibilities, the landscape changing with each passing week as the warmer months take over and the blossoming life-cycle of protected flora and fauna moves on apace. There are ample opportunities for trekking, mountain biking and cycling within our region with clearly indicated trails along the mountain slopes and access within just a few kilometres to the challenging three peaks of Stelvio, Gavia and Mortirolo, renowned in world cycling.
A nine-hole golf course nestling within a lush green basin and surrounded by the magnificent peaks of upper Valtellina provides a further opportunity to enjoy the attractions of a life outdoors; and all just a short stroll from Bormio’s historic centre graced with splendid architectural features and an impressive Civic museum recording its rich and engaging history and traditions.
The common thread linking all these experiences are the thermal waters themselves: natural, warm and life-enhancing they flow throughout the year enveloping visitors to the resort in a state of well-being, health and relaxation during rejuvenating stays every single day of the year.
